Lots of mystery games seem to proudly boast the use of AI.
But not here! Here we think stories are better without the use of AI, whether that is a short story, a novel or a case file game.
That is why the murder mysteries you will find in our mystery games come straight from the mind of our creator, Sara West, and she doesn’t go looking for help from AI.
Sara has been running a murder mystery company for the last nine years, providing murder mystery events across the UK from London to Manchester, Wales to the North East of England. She has written more than 50 murder mystery plots with every motive and most methods of bumping off characters that you can think of.
And she began turning her mind to mystery games after the lockdowns due to Covid.
Sara says: “I love our murder mystery nights and weekends but the crimes aren’t examined in huge depth as most of the focus is on our suspects, their secrets and lies. The detective games give me a chance to research and deliver investigative techniques that I would never be able to use in an evening of entertainment.
“And no I don’t use AI in the crafting of the case file games that you receive from us.
“AI definitely has its place in our lives but right now it does not belong in story-telling. And that is what our detective games are.
“The games may not be a novel but I am creating stories about people – victims and suspects – and I want there to be a connection to you as you try to solve one of the cases.
“That’s why I try to bring characters like Malia Key to life with videos and photos, with descriptions from her friends or perhaps videos of Samuel Hardiman’s son as he pleads for your help in finding out what happened to his father.
“I’m not sure AI can do that although I’m sure it can offer up some great twists and turns.”
Sara hasn’t tried to ask AI to create a detective game in the Investigations series and she’s not going to either.
“Stories are a fundamental human need whether we consume them as mystery games, books, films or TV series and it strikes me that at the moment AI is simply stripping novels and turning out someone else’s story,” says Sara.
“I don’t want to be telling someone else’s story. I want to tell my stories in my way and I hope that is what makes our detective games unique.”
